Carnival Conquest Cruise Review

This year as part of my main holiday with my family, we booked a cruise for 8 days from Florida sailing around the Caribbean, going to 4 different islands. I was excited to go away with my family, as this is my last holiday with them.
I was looking forward to the Cruise but a little nervous. I love to plan and when looking at the website for the cruise, I felt I couldn't plan, I didn't understand what to do.
The website is rubbish, we booked the cruise and had our own log in details to look at the cruise ships, it wasn't based around 'OUR' cruise. It only explained every cruise possible, which to me was very confusing because I wanted to know what the things to do were on our cruise. This was difficult.

Once we were travelling to the cruise, I was nervous. My whole family were nervous as we were unsure of what to expect. We arrived to where a man came along with a cart for our luggage we helped put it on and headed to a queue, we were very unsure of what we were waiting for. In this queue, we headed through security and checked in and received a card each which let us in our rooms and this is how we paid for our drinks onboard. After all of this, we had pictures taken boarding onto the boat.

This is my family boarding the ship.

On the cruise, we found out there was 3,500 people onboard, I am unsure if this included staff/crew or not. There were 900 children, as it was Spring Break week in America. 92% were American, ONLY 1% British which I found very shocking.

I shared a room with my sister while on board the cruise. It was a double room, with twin beds. It was a reasonable size room with bathroom included, I was unable to get a picture of the bathroom because it was a quite a small area, big enough for what we needed but unable to get a flattering picture.

My whole family found the beds very comfortable. The room was very spacious which I wasn't expecting. There was 2 wardrobes and then a separate cupboard for shelving and 3 drawers and 2  bedside tables, overall a lot of storage. The suitcases stayed under the beds. There was TV and a mini fridge included.
When on the cruise, we had 1 cleaner for our room, on the very first day he came to say hello, he explained who he was and told us that he would be our cleaner and worked out our names. Every time we saw him, he would say hello and ask us about our day. He was lovely, unfortunately I don't remember his name. Every night, the cleaner made a towel animal, it was a surprise every night to what it was.

Positives of the Cruise;

  • Great shows.
  • Good size rooms.
  • Friendly staff.
  • Nice stops when on islands.
  • Able to access food and drink whenever we wanted.

Negatives of the Cruise;
  • It was sometimes rocky, depending on sea.
  • Queues, we sometimes had to queue for breakfast/lunch, or when leaving the port, we had to head through security again therefore we often queued.
  • Choice of food, I sometimes found that the food was the same old thing, just a different sauce - wasn't much change.
  • It felt like a money - making scheme - they took photos every night at each meal, when arriving at port etc but had to pay to keep them. Food is included in the price. When we arrived on the cruise, they were 'handing out' cocktails but actually we had to pay - this wasn't clear. We had to pay for WiFi, it was a big cost.
  • No WiFi - in this day and age, WiFi should be included. I understand that it may not work that well because in the middle of the sea but it should be included. Everyone sort of expects WiFi everywhere, even planes have it.
  • We were unable to get off when we wanted to - this is one thing I don't like, I like to be busy, with lots to do.
  • There wasn't much to do on the cruise - The cruise I attended only had bars, casino, pools, shows and kids clubs. Because I am under 21, I am unable to go in the casino or bars. The pools were very small with not much room around for everyone to have a sunbed. The shows were only at certain times (only evening).

Overall, I did enjoy the cruise, but I would possibly try a different company or going with friends as there is a lot more to do as a group.
I will be going through the ports in different blog posts, so keep your eyes peeled!

Have any of you been on a cruise? Who did you go with? What did you think? I would love some feedback.
