St Kitts

St Kitts

St Kitts is a small volcanic island which was formally named St Christopher. Christopher Columbus spotted St Kitts in 1493, when populated with native tribes. The west side of the island borders the Caribbean sea and the east side of the island is the Atlantic Ocean. St Kitts and Nevis island are as one country. St Kitts is approximately 18 miles long and 5 miles across. The main population of the island is African however mostly English speaking. The capital of the island is Basseterre. St Kitts is a well known honeymoon destination.

When we arrived at the island, there were two cruise ships, it did seem busier but this is because it is a smaller island. There were many locals trying to get the tourists to book onto tours but we said no. There were also locals holding monkeys, offering tourists to have a picture with a monkey for $1. Monkeys are well known wild animal on this island. At first we said no, as we were scared and unsure of how safe they were. We looked around the shops and the island itself, before heading back to the main square, where we had a photo with a monkey. My sister went first, I wasn't going to go but I'm on holiday why not! The monkey had a little nappy on, I suppose this stopped it from weeing/pooing over the tourists. His feet were very soft and it felt very strange. I am glad I did it though. We then headed to a bar with free WiFi for an hour or so before our trip at 12:30.

Our Trip this time was a Beach Extravaganza. It started off with a scenic drive around the island. We travelled through Basseterre to Frigate Bay, we headed over Timothy Hill to a beautiful beach 'Cockleshell Beach'. The drive was 30 minutes.
The beach was beautiful. It's the island's best beach, it is very secluded but a mile long and amazing views of Nevis. The water is very clear and warm. We then spent the time at the beach, where we had time to relax, enjoy the sun, take in the views and paddle in the sea.

On the way back to the cruise ship, we stopped at the top of Timothy Hill to take a beautiful picture of the whole island. There were many opportunities to get a photo of both seas on either side of the island but somehow I missed them all! It was beautiful!

I would definitely recommend visiting this island. It is beautiful. The Cockleshell Beach is the best beach of the island. It wasn't that busy, only tour buses visiting. It's a great place to relax. A honeymoon destination for sure!
Have you ever visited St Kitts? What did you think? What places would you recommend visiting?
